The Shape Of Things To Come

Thanks to all of you who tuned into the Passion 07 Podcast--connecting the world on the journey to Atlanta. We've had a lot more listeners in week one than we expected and even landed in the top 25 of all Podcasts on iTunes, something I hadn't even thought about when we started. Tomorrow (November 22) Podcast #2 will launch with a fantastic interview with John Piper and a little extra "Piper twist" you won't want to miss!

This past week on the Podcast we shared our BIG NEWS, which really wasn't big news after all, but more of an update on where things are headed here at the Passion House. For those of you who couldn't hear it for some reason, the big news is that Passion 07 will be our last four-day January gathering for a bit. To be specific, there are no plans underway for a Passion 08.

Passion 07 will mark three straight years for the January event, growing from 11,500 in 05 to over 20,000 this year. We could keep building and possibly grow bigger and bigger, and in many ways that seems like the most logical thing to do. But our hearts are not moved by simply having the largest gathering possible and, as a result, our path in 2007 and 2008 is taking us a slightly different direction. The path ahead is less of a sure thing, but it's one we couldn't be more pumped about! So the Big News IS NOT that there will be no more Passion gatherings after this year. Just that the shape of those gatherings, and their locations, will change.

Why share this now? We didn't want anyone to not come to Passion 07 because they thought they would have the chance to experience it next year at Passion 08...only to discover that there is not a next year... and then be sad, or mad, or sad and mad and all jacked up because we didn't tell them that they really did need to come this year and not go skiing with the fam in Utah because they could (and should) go skiing with the fam in Utah next year, but they can't come to Passion 08 next year because there will not be a Passion 08 next year to come to because our path is changing a little in the near future. So, we are letting you know now so that you can make your decision having all the info. I agree, the news is bittersweet. But the journey God is leading us on has a place for you, too.

And what about the shape of things to come? We can't say a lot now, but there will be much more to come on that front while we're together in Atlanta. For now, stay tuned to the Passion 07 Podcast and have a fabulous time with family and friends sharing Thanksgiving together.

So Grateful.
Louie

  • I was reading today from an excellent devotional(Reflections for Ragamuffins, by Brennan Manning) about the growth of the Kingdom of God. "The Kingdom of God is not what you expected--a dazzling and dramatic intervention of unbearable glory. You see, it begins very small, tiny like a mustard seed. And it takes time to grow, so be patient. The kingdom will grow by itself"
We want things to grow fast so we can messure the results, when we can not see grow, then we conclude that it is not working. It is not about us making all the effort to extend the Kingdom of God; God is the one who will extend his own kingdom. So not doing Passion 08 will be like a time of growth in our local communities. A time to wait for the harvest of what you (passion team) have invested. Estoy orando por ustedes( I am praying for you) and just remember Mexico City.

  • Louie, I am very excited about how God has used Passion and all the conferences. I am thankful that you guys are really after the heart of God throughout all this.
I have a question- could you please tell me the name of the female poet who did one of her poems at onedaylink in 03 and is in one of the songs on Steve Fee's Sacred Space? I cannot for the life of me think of her name!!

  • Have y'all ever seen the movie "Facing the Giants"? It's like the Passion vision in a movie. check it out. It is one of the best christian movies ever!

  • Bill
Yes i saw "Facing the Giants." It was really good! Throughout the whole thing it's talking about God getting the glory, and not the football team. I agree, it is kind of like Passion's vision. Anyway, I agree...it was a good movie. =]
By the way Louie, I am SO excited about the John Piper Podcast!!!

  • Why is Passion at the same time as Urbana? It seems that the timing divides the attention missions and worship receive.

  • "Look at the nations and watch--and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." -Habbakuk 1:5

Guys, God IS working and He is faithful to His promises. What an amazing thought that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to this "pale blue dot" to save us for His glory, and His glory alone! God, make us "utterly amazed"!

  • Louie,
first let me say that I loved podcast number 2 and you guys had me rotfl with the Bad Piper - not a combination you expect to hear - that was hilarious! heehee :)

Also thanks so much for sharing your future direction with us early so people could make a fully informed decision regarding P07; that was very considerate; thanks so much.

And thank you for explaining why there will not be a 4 day passion 08; it does remind me of what my pastor said last year of our church's annual 4th of July outreach which has grown to 110,000; we do see alot of fruit from that event each year but he also said that we dont want to just keep doing this because it appears more sucessful each year to the human eye; we only want to do this as long as we feel that God is in it, because we want to be about doing what God is doing. So you both sound similiar to me in your desire to not rely on something sucessful you knew God wanted you do in the past, but to seek out what the Lord would have you do next, which may be something totally different. I always find it so interesting when I hear the Lord speaking the same truth from different sources, a confirmation of sorts.

Thank you for seeking the Lord
and your openness to share this with us.
Can't wait to see what God does with Passion next!
    Blessings all~

  • Where is the 2nd Podcast? How do you find it to listen to it?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/26/2006 7:11 AM

  • Just found out today our Passion Trip is going to be 6 full days! Talk about long car trips! I am so pumped....only 35 days till we leave good 'ol Indiana!

  • Hey Anon @ 7:11
I'm no itunes expert, (I've only used it a time or two-so there might be a different better way to do it)...but if you look at the 268 post on Nov 16 on the main 268 blog page, there is a link to subscribe to the podcasts....
so after I did that, the next time I went into itunes, it saw that I had subscribed to them, it saw that there was a new podcast out there, and it automatically loaded it for me....
you might want to check out that subscribe link or if you have already done that, you might want to go into itunes and see if it realizes the 2nd one is there and loads it for you...

Or you could try going to itunes and on the main page upper left corner click on 'podcasts', then click a little lower left 'religion & spirituality', and the 'Passion07' podcast is showing over on the right side under 'top podcasts'.
It looks like you can see both podcasts there as well as subscribe to future ones.
    hope that helps...

  • Louie and the Passion House,

I'm praying for the great state of South Dakota to be represented at Passion '07! Since I grew up in good old SD and have represented at other Passion events, I'm hoping at least 1 of the few thousand people will catch a vision. I would love to help, but this year I am living in Germany. Does it still count if I vicariously attend '07 by purchasing the conference talks later? I'd love to see God work in my home state and see a spark ignite into a flame because of Passion '07. I'm praying for South Dakota (& Germany!!)

  • Hey, I am so excited to get to be a part of passion for the first time this year. It is really cool that yall(yes i'm from mississippi) are wanting to make a change to follow God in another way, but I am worried about all the people from overseas. We have Christians from all over the world coming, and I want them to have something to come to. Just thought I would put that out there, because it was on my heart.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/26/2006 11:40 PM

  • excited about whatever God has in store for Passion. praying for somebody in South Dakota today!! come to Passion 07!!

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11/27/2006 8:58 AM

  • Bittersweet indeed... I'm blessed by the music and thoughts and teaching I've gleaned from Passion via cd/dvd for the past few years, and excited about where God is leading you guys... although slightly disappointed too, I cant make it this year... I tried to make it happen and it just wasnt... but God is it in his hands... whatever happens, is from him. All to Jesus! Bless you guys.

  • God moves the way He wants to move. Even if it means saying no to what seems such grandiose things to do for Him. Thank God for people who have given up a lot of time to hear God. It has tuned their ears to His direction.

  • so I wanted to come this year. And now.. I just found out that the registration has closed for highschool seniors. Of which is stupid on my part because I never thought to check it in advance. And, I really reallly wanted to go. But now I cant, and never will be able to. How sad is my life now.
