28 Day Journey-Day Eighteen

Thursday 12//22//05
18 Love Canada

[First, thanks for your comments. Beautiful. Just wanted to know we’re not the only ones on the Journey.]

One month ago Passion was north of the border, hosting our first international gathering in the lovely city of Toronto. I fell in love with Toronto as a college student a long, long time ago. After a long absence I was back in the city a few years ago, this time with the realization that: 1) Toronto is a collegiate mega-city, with over 300,000 students within 60 miles of downtown, and 2) There are lots of university students with a passion to see God do something on the campuses where they live.

It was an amazing night (we’ll show you more about it at Passion06) with over 4000 students from not just Toronto, but all over Ontario and beyond.

Today, we want Toronto to know we haven’t forgotten you. I know a few of you (and other Canadians, too) will be with us in Nashville, but know that Toronto will be front and center during those days as we talk about what God is doing there and encourage students and leaders to think about making the jump north to walk along side you in the cause.

Today, we are praying for you…for fires of awakening to fan into flame all across your spacious land. From east to west, may the name of Jesus fill the streets until His renown is Canada’s song.

Today’s prayer:
There are over 60,000 students at The University of Toronto in the heart of the city. Let’s pray for U of T, asking God to strengthen and unify the ministries and churches that are serving students there. Pray that God will open the eyes of students and faculty to His grace and mercy. Ask Him to expose the darkness for what it is and rescue captives from the doom of sin and death. Ask for favor on those who are seeking to exalt Jesus.

Lord, we lift up Your church in Toronto, specifically at U of T, but all throughout the city and the nation. And we call out to You for every campus and every student in Canada. LORD, we have heard of your fame and stand in awe of your deeds, O LORD. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. Habakkuk 3:2 Father, we know when Toronto is reached the world will be touched. Glorify Your name. Make Your fame known. You are worthy of all the worship in Toronto. Be glorified for Jesus’ sake, Amen.

Through the day: May Canada’s light be You.

  • thank you for remembering us in Canada! I live in Vancouver, BC and go to the University of British Columbia, where over 40,000 students attend. As with many other universities in North America, UBC is an extremely liberal institution.. therefore all the more is the need to shine the light and witness of Christ in our relationships and interactions on campus.

This semester, i've become much more convicted and more wary about the need to make the most of my time on a college campus (i'm a senior). So, i decided to get more involved with Campus Cruasade for Christ here at UBC, and i must say, it's been a great and challenging blessing. The previous post about our Leaders reminded me of how thankful i am of our Crusade staff.. how they invest their lives into discipling and generating a greater passion to see college Christians impacting their peers. Vancouver definitely isn't a "Bible belt" area and sometimes you can wonder: where are all the Christians on campus? But we are here. And we trust that God will bring about the fruit in our labor. All that is required is faithfulness, in the big and the small. What a challenge, but what a God!

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for Canada!

  • Wow! Amazing to pray for Canada, when just last week I heard of a possible mission trip to the Canadian wilderness that may happen next summer! God bless Canada! God bless America! God bless the world!

  • The closer we get to Passion '06, the more excited I get...I am praying for God's glory to be revealed - in Canada, in Nashville, in Cape Girardeau, and in my son's heart. I am also praying for the Louie and the Passion staff - may God's peace, wisdom, and joy penetrate your hearts...Merry Christmas!

  • Louie, I know what you mean about Toronto! I grew up in Buffalo, only a short car ride away, and Toronto was my first trip to the 'big city.' A love for that place ignited my desire for the glory of God to be seen in the cities of the world. I was able to return to the city a few times as a college student, ministering alongside a missionary family in a drop-in center for children. That city is such a mosaic of countries, cultures, and creeds--it must be what New York was like in the 19th century. Thank you for having a heart for that place!

As I'm poised to embark on my second journey as a Passion volunteer, thanks for reminding me of Toronto and other international cities where revival will influence many thousands throughout the world.

Again, thank you for constantly reminding us that Passion truly is much more than gatherings, but rather equipping the saints for the work of ministry. Whether that ministry is domestic or international, God has tasked us all to be little-Christs to those we meet and regularly influence. It's important to have ministries like Passion there to remind us of that on a regular basis!

  • "So don't get tired of doing what is good. Don't get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time." Gal. 6:9

Lord Jesus, thank you so much for being SO good and faithful, and for moving in the hearts of men in Toronto and all throughout Canada. I pray that wherever they may be today that they will be encouraged. Give them rest, patience, persistence, and joy as they travel on this journey. For it is only the beginning. May they not get discouraged and quit but remember that You, King Jesus, live inside them, and they are able to accomplish more than they could ever ask or imagine! Bring victory Father, and may your fame be known in Canada. Sweep through the streets and the campuses and the churches, and ignite a passion that will take on purpose! Spirit fall fresh on Canada today. Amen.

I'm reminded of a song from Passion a few years ago, "The Revolution Cry". If you haven't heard it, I would recommend that you do! May it ignite your soul as it did mine!

  • Amen! Lord show your favor to all your children in Toronto and Canada. May your love suround them and may your peace comfort them at all times. Guide and protect all of our northern neighbors! Amen.

  • Love you canada! We pray for you. It is awesome that we can pray for other cities all over the world that we can be a part of what is happening. If we don't go to another country to try to change lives we can pray for them. We can pray that people will be changed and for strength for those who have been changed. We can pray for people within our own schools and everywhere. Prayer changes lives!
