28 Day Journey-Day Twenty Three

Tuesday 12//27//05
23 Up Front With Worship

[First, a quick thanks for all you guys who have been on the Journey with us so far AND hi to those of you who got a text, call or e-mail from a friend yesterday and have just arrived. Seven days to Nashville, and today we begin our final week of the Journey.]

Worship is powerful stuff. It’s not just something to prepare us for the "message" or feel-good music that moves the soul. Worship is a weapon against the foe. The shout of those headed to battle. The cry of the oppressed. The right thing to do all the time, anytime. Worship in faith leads us to praise God no matter what we see and understand, affirming that He is sovereign over all things, orchestrating everything for His glory and our good.

At Jericho a shout brought impenetrable walls crashing down. And, when three armies pressed in on the King Jehoshophat, he formed a choir to lead the people into the fight singing, “Give thanks to the Lord, His love endures forever.” Not exactly hardened fighting words, but an affirmation of faith, praising God for His heart of love and thanking Him in advance for what He was going to do. God delivered Judah that day without a battle, as their enemies mistakenly turned on each other until they all were destroyed.

Today we worship God for who He is and praise Him for all He is doing/and has done at Passion 06. No asking for anything today. Just praise going before us as we fix our eyes on Him.

Father, we exalt You today and lift You up as our banner of hope and victory. You have no rival and are greater than all gods. Thank You for Your faithfulness to every generation and Your unfailing love expressed in Jesus Christ. I praise You because Your power holds the Cosmos together, yet You know every single thing about each of us. We are happy that You are our God and we are Your people. Thank You for choosing us and placing us in Your family…in Your story. Thank You for Passion06…for doing more than we could ask, think or imagine. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Through the day: Don't stop shouting His praise.

  • Just this morning I had read Numbers 10, God's command to Moses for the fashioning of the two silver trumpets used to call the nation to battle or to pick up their things and move them to the next camping spot. Those trumpets were a way that God communicated to the people and a way that He trained them for obedience to His call. Until the day the Lord comes back, and the trumpet shall sound again, that "call" to obedience is upon our hearts.

Praise the God calls His people.
Praise the God who shares His life.
    Praise God!

  • Not to us but, to Your name be the glory!
Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud,
Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them.
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"
All of the above verses come from the Bible, there are so many more. If the Bible talks about it, how much more should we praise him. Everyday, all day long, at night, in trouble, at all times we should praise God. And live our lives as a life of worship to him.
    Praise God all the time.

  • this is some encouragement for all who feel unworthy to serve, to intercede, to be, from an intercessor who is all of those things.

6 days and counting before passion ’06 gets underway. This is the point in time where I begin to freak out and tell God that I cannot possibly go and serve him. As one of 70 intercessors for 17,000 students, I’m not so sure I want to carry His burden for this beloved generation, even divided by 70. Being one of 7 intercessors leading a team of intercessors around the clock for roughly 3 days, I’m definitely sure I won’t be able to do this. Most intercession leaders are seasoned, mature, and speak scripture like my generation quotes movie lines.

The idea of interceding for 17,000 students is like going into a stadium of 17,000 hungry people with one loaf of bread and expecting them all to walk away filled. So you can see why i can’t possibly do even a little interceding, even for 10 minutes, on a good day.

God reminds me that I felt the same way last year at this time. He reminds me of how I felt when I walked into the mostly empty convention center on January 2nd, 2005. I sat down next to a trashcan on the floor, telling God once again that I was really not worthy to do this and felt the weight of depression, of insecurity, of low self-esteem press in on me. It was a little late to turn back. I was, after all, wearing the t-shirt.

Yet I heard Him telling me: this is who you are praying for, the students who feel their lives are trash. This is what you ask for freedom from. These students are desperate to be free, desperate to be saved, desperate for an identity that is ME.

Today as I tell God that my sins are pretty bad, (REALLY bad), that I am the one who lives with myself every day so I know how incredibly weak I am, He doesn't seem to be listening. I tell Him that He better find more strong old women to pray because I’m immature and really unable. If anyone was healed under my watch, it was because of someone else's prayers that He heard.

You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:19
This is His response to my whining. There are spots in the oceans that are 5 miles deep. Nothing that sinks into that depth ever comes back up. No eye can see into that depth of ocean.

“I do not care where you have failed. I do not care if it is in the deepest motive of your being. I do not care how far you have fallen. I do not care how deeply you have disfigured and defaced the image of God - the great craftsman, the great Master and Lord of us all, can turn your soul from that very failure into a positive endowment for future service.” J. Stuart Holden, from the book Springs in the Valley.

    And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;… Psalm 27:6

Whether it's going to passion, or going to work, or writing a song for God, or feeding the homeless, or preaching a sermon, or whatever…, just get on with it.

Because it’s God doing it, not you, yeah? It's the master craftsman taking the junk we've thrown into the ocean and once again creating art no eye has ever seen, for his Glory.

  • Jesus, it's all about You! May we never forget this in everything that we do. You are amazing Lord and we stand in awe of You today. May we see You as You are Lord and be humbled before you. I praise You for my salvation, that when I continue to turn away from You, that You take me back in and call me Your child. You are so much bigger, more loving, more sovereign, righteous, and worthy of praise!

  • Amen! I just love this prayer today, because it is not about us Lord, but to You be the glory. You are the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords, the Master of all creation, the Ruler of all nations! Let us bow humbly before You and give You all honor, glory and praise.

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father......Phil. 2:10-11

  • I will extol the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together.

I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; He saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him. Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing." Psalm 34:1-9

Even today our passion is for You alone Lord!

  • Praise God, our Holy Father, that He has reserved this time for us to praise, to worship and to honor Him.

Fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing.
    Psalm 34:9

Thank you, brothers and sisters in Christ for your love for our Father and for each other.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3
