Passion Day One-What A Sight!

Not sure what to say, except seeing every seat in the Gaylord filled with students and leaders is pretty overwhelming. People made it here, and for that we're grateful. We had only 10 minutes of furious rain in a day that was supposed to be marked by strong storms for much of the afternoon. :) The opening session was almost too much to take in, beginning without a lot of flash, just a simple and powerful acoustic set with David, Chris, Charlie and Matt. Mat'a, a university student from Slovakia who traveled to Passion 06 with nine other Slovak girls and 2 leaders (only three of which are Christians!), helped me welcome everyone.

I should have been paying more attention to taking pics, but it was kind of a bus
y day! Here are two I did grab. One is students gathering outside the Arena about an hour before doors opened. The other is the guys on stage right before doors opened doing a quick sound check for their set.

God is here. We are eager to see how He's going to lead.

Will try to get more people shots for you tomorrow.

Sleep now.

  • it is so good to be here and share this God-encounter with 18000 other believers. What a day that this has been. And the best is coming, I think that God has great things to do here.

  • Praise God for safe travel and a fantastic start! May God speak directly and clearly to each student, leader, staff, and volunteer today and in the days that follow. Thanks for the comments and pictures, they really do help guide prayer for those of us who can't make it this year, but join in prayer from off-site.

  • Galatians 6:6 says, "Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor." I don't know about you, but I have received life-changing, transforming instruction from Louie and the Passion Ministry. As Louie wrote in one of the blog entrys, he has carried this vision for some 9-months, and now it's birth. Giving birth is an exhausting endeavor. Now is the time to pray for Louie and Passion's leadership. Pray that God would refresh Louie as he refreshes others. Ask that God would continue to speak His word through Louie. Pray for strength. Wisdom. Grace. Power. All throughout the day honor God by honoring his servants. Pray continually. Serve constantly. Love selflessly. I don't know what your "good things" are; maybe they are prayers, encouragements, service, financial contributions, obedience, whatever they might be, share them, contribute to the leadership of Passion. We have received much good instruction from Louie Giglio and the Passion team.

  • Psalmgirl,

You prayed for me last week when my world was crashing and really encouraged me. i want you to know i am praying for you now. i was just thinking of the cool stories you shared with me about God's faithfulness, and how quickly things can change in our lives. one day we are supporting others and the next we need support! anyway, this one worship song has been replaying in my own mind lately, and i thought i'd share the lyrics. it has been an avenue of praise for me through difficult and changing times and i hope and pray the truth in it will encourage you as well. our circumstances change, and confuse us, and scare us, but God is faithful, and consistent, and dependable, and your choice to walk ahead, believing that the Truth is TRUE, satisfies Jesus! He delights in the submission and surrender and trust of one heart - your heart - just as much as He does in 18,000 students lifting their hands to Him.

So take heart, he is attentive to you. i feel like He wants you to meditate on that. He is attentive to you. He will accomplish what concerns you. Trust in Him with joy, just like you are, and He will work.

Psalm 138: "I will give You thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to You before the gods. I will bow down toward Your holy temple And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name. On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O LORD, When they have heard the words of Your mouth. And they will sing of the ways of the LORD, For great is the glory of the LORD. For though the LORD is exalted, Yet He regards the lowly, But the haughty He knows from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.
The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands."

also 1 Cor. 1:9 - "God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."

ok, here are the lyrics to that song. It's called Yesterday, Today and Forever, by Vicki Beeching:

    Everlasting God
The years go by but You're unchanging
    In this fragile world
You are the only firm foundation
    Always loving always true
    Always merciful and good
    So good

    Yesterday today and forever
You are the same You never change
    Yesterday today and forever
You are faithful and we will trust in You
    We will trust in You

    Uncreated One
You have no end and no beginning
    Earthly powers fade
But there is no end to Your kingdom
    Always loving always true
    Always merciful and good
    So good

    Yesterday today and forever
You are the same You never change
    Yesterday today and forever
You are faithful and we will trust in You
    We will trust in You
    We will trust in You
    In You

    Yahweh God unchanging
    Yahweh firm foundation
    Yahweh God unchanging
    Yahweh firm foundation

    Yesterday today and forever
You are the same You never change
    Yesterday today and forever
You are faithful and we will trust in You

    We will trust in You
    We will trust in You
    Faithful God

    We will trust in You
    We will trust in You
    Faithful God

  • Amen. We have been praying hard. We are 25 and missionaries to Sudan Africa. We are in the states for now and we have been interceeding for Passion 06. Passion has been one of the biggest encouragement for my husband and I to leave and GO with our son titus. May the Lord Send many this week!

  • Psalmgirl, I just want you to know I am praying for you too! I have been thinking about you today. I can't quote Bible verses, but know that you are in my prayers tonight, for whatever it is that you are facing right now. You are lifted and loved by so many who don't even know you. Be blessed.

Can't wait to hear more from Passion. They must be rawkin' in heaven right now!

    Peace be with you,
    Melissa

  • Psalmgirl-You are very welcome! So glad to know things are turning around for you. There have been so many times in my life when I've had to put all my trust in God and He has been soooo faithful. He never disappoints. Keep us posted on how things are going for you and if there is more we can pray for on your behalf.

Passion people! Awesome news coming from you guys! I cannot even imagine what is must be like there. A little glimpse of heaven, perhaps? :) Times a million!
I cannot wait to hear more! Thinking and praying for you always.

    Peace,
    Melissa
