How Do You Say Wow In Russian?

It's past 12:30 AM here in Kyiv and Passion World Tour stop #1 is ringing in our hearts. Honestly, it feels surreal. In a word, tonight was beautiful. No, unbelievable. No, crazy. No, God!

We weren't sure what was going to happen, but by the time the "Hello Kyiv" video was rolling there were over 4000 people in Sports Palace...and when the words "Just in case you missed it, JesusIsAlive" rolled up the screen a huge roar went up in the place.

There's so much flying through our heads right now, so many great God moments. But hearing them sing "God Of This City" in Russian was pretty special. They were blown away when we told them tonight was a gift from the students of the US, and then in that same spirit they gave for the night ahead in Stockholm. Students giving and praying for students...that's a movement.

Our Passion Kyiv team did an incredible job along with our Ukrainian friends. And we could feel your prayers the whole time. If this night is an indication of things to come...woah!

An early flight to Sweden awaits. More later. Jesus is amazing!

  • So INCREDIBLY AWESOME!! I can just see the dominoe effect starting already. I was a volnteer at Passion Atlanta and am so moved by this movement that I have the whole family praying. We have a bulletin board in the living room with a world map on it. We are tracking every event by looking it up on the internet, finding it on the world map and then praying. I wanted the whole family (kids who are 4 and 6)to know how big and awesome our God is and to pray along with me. I am just praising God for who He is and what he is doing. Praying with you all along the way.

  • Thank you Passion for encouraging the saints here in Ukraine. The atmosphere took on a whole new level of engagement when Chris sang in Russian (or tried his best!). I know this is a huge hurdle but one that I hope you all can address increasingly in the future, I believe it will be a worthy effort to become more culturally relevant with core language in worship... the world doesn't all speak english... yet. Awesome job and blessings on the remaining tour. Bruce/Deb Crowe, Ukraine.

  • Wow! We are praising God for this first stop on the World Tour! My children and I (8, 6, 5 yrs) are looking up each city and praying for you all! We played "God of this City" really loud around the time we thought you guys might be playing it in Kyiv (including the 7 hrs time change). The kids thought that was really fun and love seeing the pictures, reading Louie's blog, etc....We are so thrilled to hear about the "greater things" Jesus is doing and continue to pray that He will prepare hearts in advance - in each city - to respond to the Truth! I think it's so awesome that Chris has taken the time to try to learn some of these songs in the languages where you're going! That picture with him, his guitar, and the words of "God of this City" in English and Russian (?) - incredible!

And when you all started singing God of This City in Ukranian- I lost it! It sounded fantastic! My family and I all gathered around and were singing along in worship with you. What a start!

so, thanks, and have fun in Stockholm!!!! i pray that God will give you and the rest of the clan the needed strength, needed rest, and opportunities to be fruitcakes and be understood nonetheless.

  • Last night was so amazing, thank you so much, PASSION!!! I really enjoyed with how much passion the band was playing...God bless ya!!!

As a missionary here in Ukraine it was really encouraging being surrounded by all this Christian youth, and worship God together!!!

the fruitcake-message was a big encouragement, I'm going to live with a none-christian roommate soon... 2 weeks, right???

  • So wonderful to be so personally and deeply connected to all of this through prayer alone. I wanted to go somewhere on the tour but God has shut that door for now.

God is teaching me so much about prayer through committing to pray for this tour. I'm truly starting to understand how critical and how fundamental it is to be rooted in prayer for all things great and small.

Praise God and I can't wait to hear/read about Stockholm...

  • Last night I experienced one the greatest things of my life...

It's been my dream to attend a Passion conference for about 5 or 6 years - since my American friend Amy presented me a Passion Live CD. I played it over and over and over again.... prayed with the people on it, sang with them, memorized all the songs... And I thought to myself 'One day I'll go to America and I'll join these Christians in worship. I'll praise the Lord with thousands of Christians from all over the world. We'll become one. Our voices will shout to the Lord of all creation.'

God is good, oh so good... I didn't even have to cross the ocean. My heart rejoices... Halleluiah!!!!

And to everyone who contributed to this night, it touched not just Ukraine, but NATIONS. MANY MANY nations! :)

  • Hi PASSION MOVEMENT!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!
I cannot believe this is happening. I'm here in Australia listening to your pod cast and you are in Kiev ministering to thousands of lives. It just blows my mind what God can do through a group of passionate people. I'm so excited that you Louie and your team decided to include Eastern Europe in your tour as I'm one of them.
Can't wait to hearing from you in Sydney in October.
I'm definitely coming and hoping to bring as many people as I possible can.
Side note: During Hillsong Conference I had the privilege of being a part of the Key Speaker's Resource Team and because I did not know much about other speakers' resource I decided to encourage people to get your DVDs as I have watched them all many times and memorized some parts of them. I had amazing conversations with people and I used that opportunity to invite them or young people in their world to come to Passion Sydney' 08.
Praying for you and your team,
    Hillsong College Student from Poland

  • WOW! This is a great blog, Louie. Glad I found it. Just wanted to check in and make sure the tour is going well. And thank God it seems to be starting off wonderfully.

I spoke with Chris at church on Sunday and he seemed a little nervous about The World Tour. He said he had no idea what to expect. Our conversation got interrupted before I could tell him this, "Expect the unexpected. Because our God has already gone before you and has already prepared the way."

I think God has proven this in Kiyv. So Chris, Louie and everyone who is a part of this tour, relax, be blessed and expect miracles.

And concerning France, no worries. If only one person shows up (which I doubt will be the case), rejoice and continue with the event. For that one person, it just as important to God as 4,000 :).

    Praying for you all.

  • Hey Passion team, thanks so much for coming to Kiev. The night was fabulous and God was glorified big time. I almost didn't attend, due to having to find somewhere to spend the night in Kiev. But God worked it out and I was greatly blessed, as I know the seven others from our chruch were. Ashley's testimony was so amazing and encouraging. I was challenged about whether I am a fruitcake or a Jeremy. God's making me into a fruitcake, I hope.

  • Dear Louie and the TEAM,

Just wanted to thank you for being obedient and humble before the Lord enough, to do such a CRAZY thing - start a world tour with PASSION. And a SPECIAL "THANK YOU" from all Ukrainians, for the fact that you have chosen to start it in KYIV!!!

How in the world did that happen? Is this the case when the LAST become FIRST??:-) Funny how things work in God's kingdom...

The night was UNBELIEVABLE and I almost lost my voice from singing. I know that many people were WOWed (yes, it does sound the same in Ukrainian:-) and encouraged both by worship and the WORD. Ashley's story was truly amazing!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL dear people at Passion team, whom I know personally now: Amy, Jeremy, Tim, Chris, Charlie and off course Louie.

We sure hope you will be back to Kyiv again, very soon!!

By the way, somebody knows where to find Ashly's story? I'd like to read it again and share with friends.
& Who knows where to download the CD, Louie promised us?

  • I brought about 80 people t the conference... let me say this, not only did many of my students say that it was the best Christian event that they have been too ever, many also are choosing to keep their wristbands on until the tour is over so they remember to pray for all the cities and stops. Seriously though, it was an amazing night, my buddy went to the one in Dallas and had me pumped up for the 1st stop of the world tour here in Kyiv. But to be honest my appetite was whetted when we first met everyone and started planning back on the YWAM boat months ago! Please come back! ...and thanks! Glory to the name of Jesus!

  • Hey, my name's Chris and I'm from Canada. I was in Ukraine on a mission trip the 2.5 weeks previous doing evangelism to Chinese students at various universities in Kyiv and Odessa and one thing lead to another (which is a completely different story in itself) and I was able to go. I ended up hanging out with a bunch of my new Chinese friends. It was really cool seeing some of them that got saved while we were there and even some of those that didn't make decisions there. Proof that we serve a great God. When Louie asked people to yell wherever else they were from, I was yelling Canada, but it seemed like only my friends sitting around me heard me.....haha. And the one that Louie couldn't understand and thought was gibberish were all of my friends that I was sitting with yelling "The People's Republic of China".

    Good times indeed ;).

  • Guys...you all were just so so AMAZING!
(I know you'll have heard this like a 1000x, but i just felt that i needed to say it again :)

When i heard that you guys were coming to Kyiv, i skipped my free US100 ticket for a night of free bowling and dinner at an exclusive club here in Kyiv. My friends think I'm crazy...but I'm so happy I made the right decision to come to the concert. My heart just swelled with pride and joy as everyone in the stadium started to sing along. And I must also say that introducing the 3-ppl-prayer-2gather (triangle) was a superb idea as after that, the presence of the Lord was even stronger. God was definitely present amongst us!

My prayers are with you guys and i feel so much a part of this whole Passion thing. I can't wait to volunteer in the upcoming Passion conference in Kuala Lumpur on August 3rd as I'll be back home for summer that time.

Once again, thank you guys for your perseverance, desire and passion to bring the good news to everyone. May our dear Lord continue to bless you'll bountifully and abundantly as you'll do his ministry faithfully.

See you guys soon in Kuala Lumpur!

  • I attended Passion Dallas where I first heard of World Tour. My summer plans were already in the works to be in Kyiv for the summer working at Kyiv Theological Seminary, but I knew that'd I would miss the first stop on the World Tour. I was, however, excited to be dropping into a city that had just been bombarded with the Word of God!
I sit here now in my flat in Kyiv with tears in my eyes. I've been here for nearly a week and have already fallen in love with these beautiful, hurting people. I had actually forgotten about Passion Kyiv until last night when one of the girls in my ESL class told me she had gone and it had changed her life. I came today to the website to read about it, and now I can't stop crying. The picture with the screen reading "and greater things are still to be done in this city" in both English and Russian brought me to my knees. Passion the Conference has left the city, but the spirit has not. I hope and pray that I can be a part of the greater things still to be done this summer.

  • Ever masturbate with the thoughts of someone else besides Jesus in your head? That is why the goal of passion is to make Jesus the most famous name in your life. There isn’t a car ride or a conversation, a bite to eat or a sip to drink, or a single entertaining thing out there not waiting to give us the choice of whether or not we have Him in mind first and foremost. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that He didn’t make.-Homeless John 1:3. Every step we give. Every thought we take. Every second of the day is HIS. What are you going to do with Jesus next? “What do you mean, if I can’t?” Jesus asked. “что угодно is possible if a person believes.”
