Prayer Update For John Piper

Though the news of John Piper's cancer diagnosis has reached many people, for those who may not have heard, Pastor Piper announced that he has prostate cancer in a letter dated January 6. As you might expect, John and his family are trusting in the sovereign plans of God and desiring that this journey through cancer be used to glorify Jesus Christ and strengthen His Church. John's letter to his church is posted at DesiringGod.org. All of us at Passion are praying with John, Noel and their family.

  • God is able to heal so I pray for healing and restoration for John Piper. The Lord has healed me from life threatening asthma. I am asthma free without any drugs.

Here is a praise report for the prayer I asked for on 1-12-06. The Lord's faithfulness endures forever. Psalm 40:1-10
    1
I waited patiently for the LORD to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
    2
He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.

    3
He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be astounded.
They will put their trust in the LORD.

    4
Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD,
who have no confidence in the proud,
or in those who worship idols.

    5
O LORD my God, you have done many miracles for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them.

    6
You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.
Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand--
you don't require burnt offerings or sin offerings.

    7
Then I said, "Look, I have come.
And this has been written about me in your scroll:

    8
I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your law is written on my heart."

    9
I have told all your people about your justice.
I have not been afraid to speak out,
as you, O LORD, well know.

    10
    I have not kept this good news hidden in my heart;
I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power.
I have told everyone in the great assembly
of your unfailing love and faithfulness.

    Praising His Glorious Name!!!

2But for you, sunrise! The sun of righteousness will dawn on those who honor my name, healing radiating from its wings. You will be bursting with energy, like colts frisky and frolicking

  • I heard about this as soon as I got back from Passion. It really puts his messages on suffering in a new light. Have been praying for him and will continue to do so!

  • I will definitely be in prayer!
    We all should be!

Dr. Piper has opened our eyes to what suffering really is and I believe our faith needs to be put into God during this hard time.

What a faithful man of God...
Even through all this I know that Dr. Piper longs for us to draw our focus onto Him and not him.

    Let's pray!

  • But he is not suffering, praise the Lord. He said that he has NEVER suffered for extended lengths of times which is a great thing! He has never been in pain for long lengths of time. Praise God.

  • this comes at such incredible timing. i was informed of my mom's diagnosis of breast cancer on the same day (the same day i made it home from Passion). God is such a big God and i can imagine a man of faith such as he being able to rest in His kind arms and still being able to maintain an enjoyment of the glory of the grace of God. i would ask not only prayers for my mom and our family but that Dr. Piper be lifted up as well. I know he is in my prayers and i ask that he might infiltrate yours as well.

  • I am so thankful for the message he brought... what we all need to hear, but don't always want to.
The heart of this man was a blessing and challenge to us all.
Oh my Jesus, I pray in your name and the power that comes with it, that you will heal this man who even in this time, seeks out your heart. Thank You for who YOU ARE, and the faithfullness you show your children when they call to you!

  • What a testimony. I've just read John Piper's letter on his website, and am deeply challenged. 'God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him'. Never has this been so well illustrated - oh that I would have such reaction should I or anyone else I know be diagnosed with cancer. John Piper, so satisfied in God that God is glorified through this illness. What a challenge to all of us.

  • My family and friends and I definately will pray for the Piper family that the Lord be their comfort.

God's thoughts are not our thoughts. He is so faithful!!

  • John Piper really ministered to me with his session on suffering. The whole point about God not having a 'plan B' is amazing! As Piper said, "you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good." You're in my prayers John.

  • There is truly much power in prayer!! I am sure that the Piper family will feel that power with the "family" they don't know , but love them and hold them up in prayer. Gods blessings to all of you at Passion, as well, as you are also part of Dr. Pipers life and love him so much!!

  • We serve the God of everything...including cancer! How great is HIS name! John Piper is in my prayers...

By Blogger HEismyLife, at 1/21/2006 9:09 PM

  • I have come to realize that John Piper is a great man of God. His messages have recently touched me in a way that I never thought that they would. The fact that he had known about his cancer and still preaching over what he did was awesome.

I have recently been diagnosed with renal adenoma (a fancy name for kidney pre-cancer). I am scared and nervous, but then I begin to think of what John Piper talk about and how this suffering that I am fixin to undertake is to be considered joy, and I can't help but worship God, the healer. Maybe this is to be used for reaching others for His glory.

I will continue to pray for Mr. Piper and I ask that ya'll pray for me.
