When Hearts Break Around The World

After quite a day of airports and buses (we spent about 25 hours going from our hotel in Stockholm to our new digs here in Brazil) we touched down in warm and balmy Sao Paulo to the news that our dear friends the Chapmans had spent the night grieving the loss of their precious daughter and sister, Maria Sue, in an accident at their home near Nashville. Though we are thousands of miles away and south of the Equator, our hearts are breaking for those we love and our arms are joining countless others around the world in extending a massive embrace to Steven, Mary Beth and their kids.

We have come to Sao Paulo to proclaim that our God is both great and good, something the Chapmans have done on practically every inch of earth for decades. Today, even in the fog of excruciating pain and confusion, we still believe both are true for us all. Tomorrow, Chris' opening set will lift the words "Your grace is enough for me" over the students of this city. Tonight, that is our hope and prayer for our friends in Nashville.

"Thank you, Father, that in this very moment Your grace is enough for the Chapmans. We believe You are great and You are good, and know that Your heart is breaking, too. Thank you that You are all they need, and You are there with them and in them. Be glorified as death is swallowed up in life and the grave is overwhelmed. Restore them with supernatural healing, redemption and grace. Thank you Jesus."

All of us at Passion and sixstepsrecords love you all so much.
Louie and Shelley

  • my heart continually breaks as I remember this tragedy. last night, as I sat in my hotel room cheering joyfully about american idol, I was brought to a stunned silence as the local texas news reported "the accident in the life of Christian music singer Steven Curtis Chapman". there are so many thoughts surrounding this - such sorrow over the loss of their precious adopted 5 year old daughter, the mixed emotion that must be going on in the head of her older brother, her parents, her whole family. the hope of great and mighty mercy, grace, unconditional love, and the great hope that we might extend to each other the comfort that only God could create; the fear that satan would try to tear this family with such evil, but the truth that brings hope that Jesus is Jesus.

and still after all this, remembering that the story of this tragedy is being announced nationally, if not internationally. and suddenly seeing this platform God has prepared through the life of the Chapmans to in such a time as this, in front of a nation, to be proclaimed as the Famous One. The Healer. The Comforter. The Miracle Maker. The One who weeps with us. The Hope. He is our Jesus, and we pray that through only His power, the Chapmans can find all and more in Him.

  • Ever masturbate with the thoughts of someone else besides Jesus in your head? That is why the goal of passion is to make Jesus the most famous name in your life. There isn’t a car ride or a conversation, a bite to eat or a sip to drink, or a single entertaining thing out there not waiting to give us the choice of whether or not we have Him in mind first and foremost. He created everything there is. Nothing exists that He didn’t make.-Homeless John 1:3. Every step we give. Every thought we take. Every second of the day is HIS. What are you going to do with Jesus next? “What do you mean, if I can’t?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
