Hello Kampala!

Home of Passion Kampala

The word is out!

The field w/ a female dorm behind.

Grassroots marketing.

Keeping our stuff secure.

Making it happen.

Going to hang the LED wall here.

After the storm.

About sunset we descended over massive Lake Victoria and touched down in Entebbe, Uganda. An adventurous 20-mile drive brought us into the chaos of Kampala rush hour (the infrastructure was built for 60,000 and there are over 2 million) and to our hotel. There's much to say and so many images I want to share (uploading one image is a labor of love), but tonight I want you to visualize this field filled with Ugandan students devoting their lives to make Jesus famous. Passion Kampala is happening on the main sports field at Makerere University, a campus of 36,000 students. So far, 12,000 are registered (it's free, but you need to register to get a wristband) and they are expecting twice that many inside the fence and who knows how many outside. While I was there set up was going smoothly and our crew was doing a great job getting the field ready, but an afternoon storm changed all that and sent one of the LED walls crashing to land face down in the rain soaked ground. As of now we're not sure what is or isn't going to work and ask for your prayers for our production crew.

We are quickly falling in love with this place and the spirit of the people, and as we've told them that Brazil is praying for them (and students in Kyiv, Stockholm, the US and the world), they can't believe it. So if you're out there, please cover this field and all of us in the expectant belief that God is going to win the day and use this weekend to change a nation. I'll be back tomorrow with more pics!
Louie

  • WOW- what incredible pics! Thank you so much for the "labor of love" in posting them- I don't think you can possibly know how much it means to pray for something so much and then to see pictures or videos (thank God for YouTube) and hear the podcasts showing all the ways that those prayers are answered! Its absolutely amazing, and encouraging, and so thrilling to witness, even from so far away, the awesome ways that God is moving. MAY HE BE GLORIFIED IN KAMPALA! You are all continuously on my heart and in my prayers.

AND TO ALL THE BEAUTIFUL STUDENTS OF UGANDA: HE IS WITH YOU, HE LOVES YOU MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER KNOW, AND THIS WEEKEND HE IS GOING TO SHOW MORE OF HIMSELF TO YOU THAN YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE! GET READY... GREATER THINGS ARE COMING TO YOUR CAMPUSES AND YOUR CITIES!

  • Podcaster at 76! (oldest???)
Passion rocks! Praying for the world tour. Been following passion since '05.
What an incredible opportunity you young people have been handed - to live your life with passion for Jesus! Don't blow it like I did for so many years on running after things of the world (experimental test pilot F-14 Tomcat).
Then 33 years ago, I was ambushed by Jesus, wrecked by His love and set on fire with passion for His fame.
The world is running on empty - run with Jesus!

  • I lived in Kampala for 2 years as an IMB missionary. I know the challenges you're facing. Just keep a smile on your face and let the Ugandans show you how's its done! When something goes wrong, we would just smile (sometimes through tears) and say, "TIA...this is Africa".
I'm so excited for what God is going to do there this weekend. He's going to show YOU things as well as the students. I'll be praying! It's going to be HUGE!

By Blogger Christy, at 5/29/2008 9:05 AM

  • Thank you so much for the updates! My children and I continue to pray each morning for the WT. You are all such an example of humility and unselfishness as you willingly go around the world proclaiming Jesus. We didn't know where some of these cities were (Sao Paulo, Kampala), so we found them on a map - great geography lesson!

I listened to my 1st podcast last night (I'm 37). Wow! The amazing people of Brazil are such an example of life and excitement for the Lord! We (myself included) in America can be so reserved! Let us learn from them and worship Jesus freely!

One more thing...I just read about how Matt Redman willingly left the Atlanta airport as soon as he heard about the Chapman tragedy - instead of going home as intended, he went directly to Nashville to be with the Chapmans. I am so convicted on so many levels by ALL of you - may I be so surrendered to the Lord's plans that I put others first, even when it's not "convenient".

God is amazing and we can't wait to hear the "greater things" that He does in Uganda (now we know where Kampala is!)!

Happy tears and prayers from Virginia...

  • Awesome stuff! Welcome to Africa, my dearest beloved Africa.... :)

I was 2 years ago on a mission trip in a rural area of my country with evangelist Des Sinclair. We were a team of about 8 people who went right into the center of a big African suburb and settled ourselves on a dusty red soccer field. There were so much pain, scars and poverty to see. I was humbled like never before and wept for all the broken children I saw. They couldn't even speak Afrikaans or English so I taught them in Sesotho that Modimo (God) loves them and that He will always take care of them. I wish you could have seen the glimmers of hope in their eyes...

We had limited recources and had to set up everything and pack up again, every day. During the one evening a crowd of about 4000 pitched up. We had around 200 salvations and numerous healings. It was a thrilling experience. Yes, no matter where we are on this planet, there is always hope through the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Thanks so much for allowing its shadow to fall on the rest of this beautiful continent and its beautiful people.

  • I don't know whether I can post a link for a video here (if I shouldn't do it, forgive me), but I've just found this video on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygRVCQrHZfA&feature=related

It shows the last song sung by Chris Tomlin in the last session of Passion Sao Paulo - so it was pretty much the end of the Conference and it shows a little bit (a very little bit) of how we felt.

In the last 20 seconds you can see and hear all of us there clapping and shouting KAMPALA! KAMPALA!

I just thought you might like to see that.

Still praying, I hope to hear from you soon with good news.

Many of us calculated the time difference to be able to keep praying during the actual sessions of Passion Kampala (it's 1pm in Sao Paulo when it's 7pm in Kampala).

Kampala, we are praying for you all the time, it will be great for sure.

    For His renown!!!

By Blogger Rodrigo, at 5/29/2008 3:49 PM

  • Praying for Kampala as I write. Listened to the Sao Paulo pod cast (I guess I am one of the 41 or maybe I take it one person higher) and it was so awesome. I got chills listening to them scream for Jesus and shout his name. Just incredible. God is so great. Thank you Passion for taking the message to the world and ministering to this generation. Praying for the team to have energy and excitement and that the storm will have damaged nothing. God will be lifted up no matter what I am sure of that. Thanks for taking the time to upload the pictures. I am checking often and it really gets me and my family excited about what God is doing. May the Holy Spirit just descend on you there in Kampala and fill you up (to OVERFLOW).
